Back acne is a genetic disease and can be tougher to fight than facial acne. This is due to the fact that body skin is thicker than face skin and regularly has pores which are larger, thus making causing more harsh acne lesions sometimes. With the exception of palms and soles of the feet, our rest of the body is prone to acne for a simple reason that these two areas do not have sebaceous follicles which are instrumental in acne formation.
It is still unknown the exact reason that causes back acne. Nonetheless one of the reasons is skin irritation. Irritation on the skin can be caused by anything that rubs against the skin; moist, damp clothing jointly with irritation aggravates body acne further more. We can certainly take steps to avoid irritation which leads to body acne.
To avoid body irritation cotton clothes which are breathable should be worn and as soon as it gets sweaty clothes should be changed. Sweat should be minimally allowed to stay on the skin as it aggravates body acne. You must be aware of the root cause of irritation so that it can be avoided as far as possible.
Body acne can be mild to severe. Daily skin care regime and treatments that are available over the counter can be useful in treating mild acne. On a daily basis salicylic acid was should be applied. There are pads available that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide which should be wiped over areas affected. Also a lotion consisting of an alpha hydroxy acid like lactic acid or glycolic acid can be used over the affected areas. This helps to pace up the process of cell turnover, quickly exfoliating the skin and thus leading to reduction of amount of blocked pores.
In most cases moderate to severe body acne is not easy to control and will require a physician to treat it. There are some oral medications and topical and treatments frequently prescribed. Common ones include oral antibiotics, Accutane and retin A. Accutane comes handy to treat severe forms of acne and when all other treatments have failed. But remember there are side effects in using Accutane.
Other small things that you could do yourself are wearing cotton clothing, use of powder to keep the back dry, apply antiperspirant on the affected areas, wear absolutely clean clothes, use clean towels, if working out then ensure the mats are clean or use a clean towel on the mat, take a shower post exercising to get rid of sweat and bacteria and try to change your clothes at least twice a day. Al these steps will ensure that your skin is mostly free of sweat and hence help in reducing acne aggravation.
