Skin responds with injuries when pores get blocked by sebum. These injuries fade away with time, but sometimes can leave permanent scars. These don't fade away for years, thus can be embarrassing for many.

Acne Scar Treatments

There are few treatments available to treat scars. Some them include dermabrasion, micro dermabrasion, chemical peel and finally laser treatment.

In dermabrasion and microdermabrasion, dermatologist would remove the top layer of the face skin by using certain mechanical device. Scars present at top layer of the skin would get removed. When new skin layer grows to replace the older one, the skin looks fresh and free of acne. In chemical peel, top layer would be removed by using chemical masks made up of substances like glycerol.

Acne Scar Laser Treatment

Laser treatments are now being widely used for scar removal treatments. These treatments are very precise and associated with less side effects when compared to the other scar treatments.

Dermatologist would have a laser device and would bombard laser on affected areas of skin with scars. The moisture present in the skin would readily absorb laser. This action destroys the scars present on the skin. It affects only the uppermost thin part of the skin. Hence these treatments are less painful than others.

In extreme cases, local anesthetic would be administered during laser treatments. Otherwise these are less painful.

The damaged facial skin would repair itself in three to four weeks time. In some cases it can take months to recover.

It is essential to protect the exposed new layers of face skin after laser treatment. Otherwise sun burns and sun tanning could occur. Hyper pigmentation is one other side effect. This could result in dark patches on affected areas.
